FINENESS

  • 916 Corresponds to 22 Carat
  • 750 Corresponds to 18 Carat
  • 585 Corresponds to 14 Carat

A millesimal fineness number indicative of gold content
on a scale of 1000

 

ASSAYING AND HALLMARKING CENTRE’S MARK

The Identification Mark of BIS recognized Assaying and Hallmarking Centre where the jewellery has been assayed and hallmarked.

Assuring purity, protecting Consumers

In India, Hallmarking Scheme has been launched by Bureau of Indian Standards on behalf of Government of India in the year 2000 to protect the consumer interest.

As per BIS Hallmarking Scheme, a licence is given to jewellery. Jewellery manufacture after ensuring that they have the capability to comply with the requirements of IS:1417 for purity.

A BIS Certified Jeweller is required to get his jewellery hallmarked from any of the, BIS recognized Assaying and hallmarkingcenters.

A Hallmark, which comprises of BIS Standard Mark, the fineness number, mark of the Assaying and Hallmarking center where jewellery has been assayed and marked, code letter for year of hallmarking and jeweler’s jewellery manufacturer’s identification Mark, means that the article has been independently tested by an Assaying & Hallmarking Centre and found to be of the marked finesse purity.
